Shawl-scarf for my Godmother

Good morning! How is your Tuesday going?

So, let´s go on with more Christmas presents... This is the shawl-scarf I made as a present for my godmother. I used a wool called Nausicaa, which is 20% merino and 80% bamboo viscose, in a beautiful petrol-blue color. I love knitting with this particular fiber, since it´s quite heavy and falls nicely, and things that have been knit using this wool end up with a gorgeous looking, particularly if you don´t like your pieces to look "hairy". The prize is not as good, though! Each spool weighs 50 gr, and costs around 3.5 euros. I used about 7 spools to make this scarf, using a number 4.5 needle.

The stitch I used was the one that Moogly taught us in this post, Alpaca your wrap. There, we can find the traditional, normal drawn pattern (which I find most useful), a written pattern, and even a video. It´s in English, so you´ll have no problem with these. I think probably this pattern is of a middle difficulty. The only difference between my design and the original one, is that I knit all the scarf in one single piece, while she started it in the middle and made it grow to both sides. I also changed the final size, as using the kind of wool I used, and with her measurements, the final thing was far too large and heavy.

Her pictures really make more justice to the piece that mine do, definitely! They show much more clearly how beautiful this stitch is once blocked. I´ve still got so much to learn to make good pics!!

Well, here´s the result (at least my result... :) )

My godmother (which, in fact, is my grandmother too) loved it, though I honestly think she would have liked it no matter how ugly it was, just because I made it. That is one thing about grandmothers, they are always loyal! ;) But, if I am to be sincere, I´m quite satisfied with the result. And I´ve liked this stitch so much, that I have used it for another couple of pieces, which I will show you shortly, including one surprise project that is keeping me very busy just now. I can´t tell you about it yet, just in case it ends up a mess and I have to dump it. I´ll tell you, though, that is my very first big piece, apart from blankets, and that it´s being quite a challenge!

Well, that´s all for today... see you soon! Kisses, and have a nice week!!
